Buckingham and Winslow Film Society present this story of how life just isn't fair for Larry, a Jewish physics professor in 1967 Minneapolis. He finds his world falling apart when his college job is on the line, his self-centred kids are smoking dope and stealing from his wallet, his useless brother is sleeping on the couch, his anti-Semitic neighbour is encroaching on his lawn and his wife wants a divorce so that she can marry smug Sy Abelman, a mutual friend. As the calamities pile up, Larry wonders if God is out to punish him and seeks advice from his local rabbis. The largely unknown cast are outstanding throughout in this well-crafted, engrossing and - ultimately, profound black comedy from the Coen Brothers (Fargo, No Country For Old Men)- nominated for four Oscars.

Buckingham and Winslow Film Society present the stor of Antoine who is a moody 30-year-old slacker, recently fired from his waiting job in the city. When his overbearing father becomes ill, he is forced to return to rural Provence to help his mother with the family's mobile grocery business, delivering produce to a selection of eccentric customers who do not impress him. But with his free-spirited neighbour Claire, who he has persuaded to accompany him, he chugs around sleepy villages gradually developing an affinity with the resilient elderly oddballs who make up his clientele. A likeable, warm-hearted movie and a surprise French box-office success.
